Job Summary
Lead one of Alaska’s largest heavy civil construction firms as General Manager of HC Contractors. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provide strategic leadership, direction, coaching and mentoring to division managers, project managers, and field leadership.
- Oversee contracts, negotiations, and changes with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.

- Provide leadership and direction to department managers and operational teams.
- Oversee financial management activities, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost control to achieve targeted financial performance and profitability.
- Monitor and report on key financial metrics weekly, monthly, and annually.
- Analyze performance trends and implement strategies to improve financial performance and operational efficiency.
- Act as a resource for project managers, foreman, and engineers throughout projects to clarify issues and/or provide oversight to construction methods.

- Oversee estimating department to ensure all estimates, quotes, and pricing meet or exceed company objectives.
- Assist Chief Estimator as needed with overseeing and preparing project estimates.
- Assist with understanding and researching project plans, specifications, special provisions, to incorporate constraints, contingencies, advantages, schedules, or special construction methods into estimates.
- Support business development and provide valuable feedback to foster improvement and business growth.
Knowledge and Critical Skills/Expertise
- Prefer four-year degree.

- Mandatory competency in CPM scheduling, time management, quality control, cost control, submittals, purchase orders, change orders, and subcontracts.
- Computer literacy is critical, including advanced understanding of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS Project, P6, and the ability to learn new programs.
- Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership techniques, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
- Knowledge of Alaska construction materials, subcontractors, and standard practices.

Required Experience
- Minimum 10+ years of relevant experience managing and/or estimating heavy civil public works and private development projects.
- Experience utilizing HCSS Heavy Job and/or Heavy Bid for managing and estimating projects.
- 5+ Years’ directly managing and overseeing heavy civil DOT, FHWA, and/or USCOE Projects.
- Experience overseeing multiple, diverse projects, ranging from $2m to $50m in value.

General Summary:
This position is responsible for overall direction, completion and financial outcome of construction projects ranging from $5-25 million.
Essential functions:
- Coordinate with estimators in preparing budgets from project estimates.
- Prepare and maintain the project schedule with scheduled updates.
- Provide accurate daily tracking and cost controls.
- Provide positive communication and support in meeting project goals.
- Provide engineering analyses and calculations for construction requirements.
- Oversee preparation of submittals and timely procurement of materials.
- Coordinate with senior company manager for project crushing and paving requirements.
- Prepare subcontracts and process subcontractor pay estimates.

Education:

Work Experience:

- 3-5 years’ experience in paving, grading, earthmoving, and heavy civil construction.
