Travis Malin has been promoted to General Manager of HC Contractors. In this role he will oversee the company’s strategic direction, ensuring profitability and aligning short- and long-term goals with team objectives.
Travis has been part of the team at HC Contractors since 2009, advancing through the ranks as Project Manager, Senior Project Manager and Operations Manager. As a Fairbanks native, his introduction to the industry started a little earlier than most. By 12, he was moving logs for his father’s clearing company. By 14 he had learned to run a chain saw and operate an excavator. At 15, he was running a 490 JD Excavator on a Dalton Hwy DOT job in Coldfoot, Alaska, and by 16, he was managing jobs, coordinating crews and executing right-of-way contracts with Golden Valley Electric Association (GVEA) for new powerlines. He progressed to foreman of the GVEA Northern Intertie project before transitioning into the paving/earthwork side of heavy civil in 2003 with Great Northwest Inc.
Since then, Travis has built an impressive portfolio of road, highway and bridge construction and rehabilitation projects, representing a cumulative $475M in infrastructure improvements. Among these, the Illinois Street Reconstruction in Fairbanks was a defining moment in his career. “It was one of the original legacy projects for Fairbanks, and it really showed me what HC Contractors is capable of.”
His approach is focused on innovation and integrating technology into construction practices. “I firmly believe that adapting and embracing technology is essential for HC Contractors,” he said. “By leveraging it effectively, we can improve productivity and efficiency across the company.”
Travis is a vested member of the laborers and operators union and proud father of two children. Outside of work, his priority is raising them and traveling the world together.
Construction offers tangible outcomes where you see the efforts of your labor. The work you do benefits the community as a whole, whether making a corridor safer for the traveling public, improving existing or installing new utilities, improving commuting time and reducing congestion.” – Travis Malin, General Manager, HC Contractors
