Angela (Angie) Kuykendall, construction superintendent with HC Contractors won a “Constructive Women” award from the Alaska chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC-AK) during award ceremonies on March 6, 2025. The award recognizes outstanding women who have made significant contributions to the Alaska construction industry.

Angie is the only female superintendent in Fairbanks managing major overpass and interchange projects in a male-dominated industry. “Her work on the GARS Intersection project is a testament to her expertise,” said Travis Malin, HC Contractors General Manager. “With 26,000 vehicles crossing the project daily and substantial design issues to overcome, she not only delivered the heavy civil work a year ahead of schedule, but also ensured continuous safe, paved access for the public throughout construction. The project received national acclaim as one of the top roads and bridges of 2024.”
With 35 years in the construction industry and 33 years as a member of the operators’ union, Angie brings extensive expertise to every project she leads. In just four years with HC Contractors, she has successfully overseen and completed some of the most complex heavy civil projects in the Fairbanks area, exceeding $74 million in contract revenue. Her management of large-scale road construction, overpasses, and interchanges has been instrumental in delivering transformative infrastructure that enhances safety, mobility, and efficiency for Fairbanks.

Angie fosters a culture of trust, teamwork, and continuous improvement. She builds strong camaraderie among her crew, prioritizes safety, and actively integrates the latest construction technology to drive performance. Her ability to lead under pressure, maintain open communication with stakeholders, and deliver transformative infrastructure projects speaks to her impact in the field.”
